Commenting following the First Minister’s Covid-19 statement, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said:
“We all know that the vaccine works. It reduces hospitalisation, death rates and cases of Long COVID.
“But it does not stop you from getting the virus and it doesn’t stop you from spreading the virus.
“The First Minister said in her statement that lateral flow testing helped to reduce transmission at COP26.
“But she has been arguing the opposite in relation to the vaccine passport scheme.
“At every point in the process of developing vaccine passports Scottish Labour has argued the importance of a negative test.
“The government must urgently engage with the sectors impacted, share the evidence, consider the practicalities and provide a financial package that will stop businesses going under and people losing their jobs.”
